Ellington Student Athlete of the Month: Michael Shuman

Name:  Michael Shuman

Academic accomplishments: Scholar athlete for 3 years, Honor Role every quarter of each year, and Sports Marketing excellence award

Athletic accomplishments:

Tri-Town Hockey: Rookie of the year, Coaches award, CHSCA Allstar, lead team in scoring, helped team advance to the CIAC DIII finals  and named captain for 2018/19 season

Lacrosse: Ellington HS Defensive player of the year, All Conference

Football: varsity letter first year of playing

How I prepare for a game: To start preparing for games I will throw on some music and zone out a bit, focusing on getting warmed up and stretched out. As it gets closer to game time I start talking with the team and having fun and finish getting gear on, and I’m game ready.

What did you enjoy the most about this past season?  One of my most enjoyable moments was watching our team push through the adversity we had in the beginning of the season. We had probably the smallest teams in our league and with being moved from Class S to M it presented a big issue, but I’m glad that my team was able to push through and make it to the second round in the state tournament.

Most memorable moment as a high school athlete: My most memorable memory is in the finals for Tri-Town taking the ice and seeing our schools packing a college rink was very memorable. There were close friends and people I’ve never seen before and they all pushed me to play at the top of my game.

Favorite pro or college athlete: Brad Marchand, Boston Bruins

College plans: Looking to study bio or pre PT while still being able to play lacrosse for the school
