Glastonbury High Student Athlete of the Month: Brette Williams

Name: Brette Williams

Sports Played: Girls Softball, Field Hockey

Academic Accomplishments: I have been recognized with High Honors for all four years, and I am a member of the National Honor’s Society.

Athletic Accomplishments: I am a softball captain and have played on the Varsity team for three years. I played field hockey for two years, making varsity as a junior.

How I Prepare for a Game: The best way to prepare for a game to me is with some good music and forgetting about the mistakes I have made in the past. I play every game like it’s a new one and motivate my teammates to do their best, without dwelling on prior games. Softball is such a mentally challenging game that it’s easy to get in a slump, so learning to leave things in the past is very important when it comes to being successful.

What did you enjoy the most about this season: I loved spending time with my teammates after practices and at pasta parties. My team is so supportive and is like my family, and every minute with them is so fun and amazing. I’m going to miss them so much! I also loved being a captain, because I learned how to truly be a leader, but also learned a lot about my teammates. They didn’t see me as a higher power but as someone they could turn to and trust. That was an amazing feeling.

Most Memorable Moment: My most memorable moment was this year when we played Middletown. Playing a team that was highly ranked on the “Teams to Watch” list, we won the game 11-10. After playing extra innings and keeping our spirits alive we pulled through with the win, and it was the greatest feeling. Everyone cheered and we all felt so united. It’s a game we constantly remind ourselves of, in order to lift our spirits and get us through some tough times.
