CENTRAL CONNECTICUT CONFERENCE

Boys Basketball

In the East Region of the CCC, the trio of senior guards Joe Reilly and Matthew Veretto and junior forward Trey Hall led East Catholic to another signature year, as the Eagles had an undefeated regular season and were ranked at the top of the state polls throughout the year before being upset by Windsor in the state tournament, finishing 22-1. Veretto, who also made the Courant team, averaged a double-double in 2017-18 with 20 points and 10 rebounds per game.

The junior duo of Jadon Archer and Kyle Menaker were also rewarded with All-CCC honors after leading Enfield to a 20-5 season, including two state tournament wins. The dynamic Archer was one of Connecticut’s top scorers, averaging 28.6 points to go along with 9.4 rebounds and 3.8 steals. He was also All-Courant. Meanker averaged 14.4 points and 8.2 rebounds.

While South Windsor and Tolland both struggled and missed the tournament, sophomore guard Justice Ellison and sophomore Brian Geitner had monster campaigns for the Bobcats and Eagles respectively, earning the duo All-CCC nods.

In the West Region of the Conference, Glastonbury juniors Aaron Latham (guard) and Jonathan Shea (center/forward) led the Tomahawks the semifinals of the state tournament and an overall record of 17-6 in their All-Conference seasons.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
RHAM seniors Anna Barry, Gretchen Kron and Lia Baroncini were recognized for their outstanding individual seasons as well as leading the Sachems to the L championship by being named All-CCC. Barry and Kron were also named All-Courant. Barry averaged 9.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3 blocks, and Kron 11 points and 3 assists. In RHAM’s state championship game win against Farmington, Baroncini led the way with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.

The Enfield dynamic duo of seniors Mary Baskerville and Cat Fonseca was also named to both the All-CCC and All-Courant teams and led the squad to the LL semifinals. Baskerville, a center, was a double-double machine and ultimately ended the season averaging 21.9 and 10 per game, along with 3.7 blocks. At guard, Fonseca averaged 12.8 points and 3.2 assists, and was second on EHS in steals.

Annie Geitner of Tolland and Alleigh Partee of Glastonbury were also named All-CCC. Geitner, a senior forward, was one of the area’s best bigs and averaged 11.4 rebounds, 8 points and 2 blocks. Partee, a senior guard, led the Tomahawks to a 12-10 season in the West Division.

HOCKEY

In the South Region, the Enfield-East Granby-Stafford team was recognized for its outstanding season by having a remarkable five players (senior defensemen Cam Gaylor, sr. forward Jason Marin, sr. for. Robbie Vose, Jake Ciraco, sr. def. Ryan Murphy) be named All-CCC. Gaylor, who was also All-Courant, scored 12 goals and dished out 15 assists. EEG advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament and finished 14-8.

Also in the South Region, juniors Owen Stacey and Gavin Till were named All-CCC for the E.O. Smith-Tolland team, which finished 9-11-1. Luke Slater earned the honors for Bolton/Coventry Rockville.

In the North Region, senior forwards Chris Aiudi and Tyler Sadak earned these honors for Glastonbury, which won a tournament contest. Senior Michael Gore was All-CCC for South Windsor, and senior Jake Beaulieu for East Catholic.

 

NORTH CENTRAL CONNECTICUT CONFERENCE

BOYS BASKETBALL

Rockville led the way by having two players named All-NCCC, senior guard Mason Resendes and junior center Lorenzo Percy. The inside-out duo led the Rams to the Class IV state Tournament. Ellington’s Kevin Redler, and Suffield junior forward Jared Lobo also gained the honors.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Suffield guard duo of junior McKenzie Sullivan and sophomore Erin Carucci were named All-NCCC and led the team to the M Tournament. Rockville senior guard Lindsey Montminy earned the honor as well.

 

Nutmeg Conference Hockey 

In the Nutmeg Conference, which some members of the NCCC participate in, Tri-Town, which represents Ellington as well as Somers and East Windsor, was represented by senior forward Andrew Gaines and senior defenseman Connor Roberts.  Gaines scored 22 goals and dropped 19 assists on the season, and Roberts earned 15 goals and 11 assists. Gaines and Roberts carried Tri-Town all the way to the Division III state Tournament final, where it lost to the Eastern CT Eagles. Gaines and Roberts were also named All-Courant.
