Glastonbury Lacrosse Falls to Darien in Tournament Semifinals

The Glastonbury High boys lacrosse team lost 15-9 to top-seeded and undefeated Darien in the semifinals of the Class L Tournament yesterday at Fairfield Prep. The Tomahawks end their season with a record of 15-4.

Glastonbury was led by senior attacker Ronan Jacoby, who scored four goals. Fellow senior attacker Mike Hawkins scored twice.

The Tomahawks started the game strong, scoring three consecutive goals in the first quarter to go up 3-1, with Jacoby scoring twice and senior midfielder Aidan Flood once. They ended the first leading 3-2.

After the Blue Wave tied the score early in the second, Glastonbury regained the lead on a goal by sophomore Justin Hazard. Darien’s offense then unfortunately started to heat up, scoring three straight to take a 6-4 advantage. Hawkins scored to cut the deficit to one, but the Blue Wave scored a huge goal with one second remaining in the half to take a 7-5 lead into the break.

Darien took control in the third, outscoring the Tomahawks 5-1 to go up 12-6. Sophomore Nick Consoli scored their lone goal. Jacoby and Hawkins scored late in the game, but by then a loss was looming.

The semifinals trip was Glastonbury’s second in three years.

Darien will face Chesire in the championship game Saturday at McMahon.
