Tolland stuffs Ellington’s bid for baseball perfection

TOLLAND – Trailing by one run going into the bottom of the 6th inning the Tolland Eagles came up with three runs to pull out an exciting 5-3 victory over previously unbeaten Ellington Tuesday. The late rally by the Eagles proved to be a fatal blow to the Knights bid for an undefeated season.

Junior Rob Gagnon paced Tolland on the mound, pitching 6 1/3 innings. He allowed eight hits, struck out two and walked two.  Gagnon also had a hit and an RBI to help spark the 6th inning rally.

Ellington’s Logan Terry pitched well before running into some problems in the sixth.

Ellington came into the game 19-0 and ranked No. 1 in the CIAC Class M state tournament seedings.

The Knights (19-1) will maintain the No. 1 spot when the state tournament begins next week. Tolland which defeated Rockville 4-1 to improve to 17-2 Wednesday, can secure the No. 2 seed with a victory over Enfield Thursday.

Gagnon was selected as TheSportsDept.com Star of The Game and will be featured in our video package later this week. To ensure receipt of The Star of The Game each week please be sure to sign up for our newsletter on http://TheSportsDept.com
