Somers Wrestler Jackson Rheault Wins Class and State Open Titles, Two Over Wrestlers Win Championship Matches

Three local wrestlers won weight class titles at the respective state championships, with Somers Jackson Rheault also winning at the State Open.

In the Class S Championships at Windham High on the 17th and 18th, Somers finished seventh with 95 points. Rheault, a senior, defeated Gabriel Schwartz of Northwestern 12-6 in the 195 pound class. Junior teammate Jeffrey Suschana took down Luis Torres of Windham 3-2 at 152 lbs. Finally, sophomore Michael Maloney, wrestling at 160 lbs,  finished third by beating Victor Garcia-moreno of Windham 2-1.

In Class L, South Windsor senior Devon Schoenberger defeated E.O. Smith’s Robert Hartling in the 113lb title match. The Bobcats finished 14th as a team with 7th points.

In the Class M Championships, Suffield, RHAM and Tolland each finished in the top 18. Tolland juniors Ryan Angers and Suffield freshman Hunter Adams each lost championship matches at 132 and 138 lbs, respectively. Ryan’s brother Michael, a sophomore, won the third-place match at 152 lbs against Berlin’s Joshua Velas, defeating him 2-1.

At the State Open, Rheault captured the 195lb championship with a 7-3 takedown of  Lyman Memorial/Windham Tech’s David Verizzi.
