Top Performers of the Week

A number of girls lacrosse teams received outstanding performances from multiple players this past week as the season reached its midpoint.

For East Catholic, sophomore star Alexa Weber scored a combined 17 goals in games against Tolland, RHAM and Conard. In the first two games on Tuesday and Wednesday, both wins, Weber scored seven and six goals. Junior Natalie Heaney also had a great game at RHAM, scoring four times.

South Windsor sophomore Ali Martin scored four goals in wins against both Southington and Avon on Wednesday and Friday, with senior teammate Bridget Kelley scoring six goals at Southington.

Glastonbury received great efforts from senior Catherine Guanci and Maddie Norman at Avon on Wednesday, as the pair each scored four goals in a hard-fought win. In Tolland’s matchup with RHAM on Friday, the Eagles Amy Gallic (senior) and Lauren Janton (freshman) and the Sachems Cameryn Antler (freshman) took over for their teams. Gallic scored five goals and Janton four to lead Tolland to the win, while Antler put in five in a losing effort.


Another week, and more accolades for RHAM star Kristi Van Meter. First, the junior struck out 13 batters in a win at Bloomfield on Wednesday while driving in four runs with four hits. Two days later at Fermi, Van Meter struck out 16 in a win, not allowing any hits or runs while on the mound.

South Windsor senior Peyton Silverman threw a five inning no-hitter against Manchester on Friday, striking out 12 in the win. Freshman teammate Maria Hanchuk went 3-4 with 3 RBI.

Windsor Locks senior Nicole Johnson went 4-4 with 5 RBI in a blowout win against Gilbert on Thursday. The same day, Enfield junior Taylor Fritz went 3-4 and drove in four runs to lead her team to a win against East Windsor.


Three pitchers threw outstanding games in wins on Tuesday. East Catholic senior Andrew Iannucci struck out 15 East Hartford batters and allowed no runs in a road win. Manchester sophomore Dylan Benton tossed a complete game shutout in a 1-0 victory at Hartford Public, allowing just three hits. Finally, Suffield sophomore Alex Honey went the distance against East Granby, striking out 11 while allowing just one run.

Somers senior Anthony Barile went 3-4 with 2 runs batted in Tuesday’s loss to Granby Memorial.


South Windsor seniors Justin Karim (outside hitter) and Scott Stonaho (setter) were both outstanding in a win against Conard on Friday, with Karim smashing 13 kills and Stonaho recording 27 assists.

Enfield teammates Zach Hirsch (senior) and Dillon DeSouza (junior) were standouts in a loss to Newington on Friday, with Hirsch recording 30 assists and DeSouza 12 kills and eight blocks.

Glastonbury senior outside hitter Erich Roman earned 26 kills in a win against Rockville on Thursday. The next day, Rockville’s own Nikita Biahliak (junior) had 16 kills in a hard fought loss at Wethersfield. Fermi senior Jared Courtnoyer recorded 10 digs and eight assists in Wednesday’s loss to East Hartford.

Boys Lacrosse 

It was an impressive week for South Windsor players, as Tyler Osit (sophomore), Connor Dunn (junior) and Kyle Foley (junior) all had impressive days in games against Bristol Central and Northwest Catholic. Osit scored five goals and Dunn four in Tuesday’s win against Bristol Central, while Foley zipped in four goals in Thursday’s loss at Northwest.

Glastonbury junior attacker Mike Hawkins scored five times in Tuesday’s win against Hall. Somers junior Christian Paley scored four goals in Tuesday’s triumph against Granby Memorial.
