By Nathan Zielinsky

TOLLAND – In a game where two team were battling for consistency as well as positioning in postseason tournaments, Tolland’s tandem of Andrew Jaworski and Devin Shelton proved to be to much for Manchester as the Eagles defeated the Indians 57-44 in a CCC boys basketball game Friday night.

(9-7) prevailed 57-44 over the Manchester Indians (7-9) in Tolland on Friday night.

Jaworski and Shelton scored 18 points apiece as the Eagles improved to 9-7. Manchester is still looking to clinch a spot in the CIAC state tournament and is 7-9 overall.

Tolland coach Dean Edwards was happy with the play from two of his most important players and knows he will need to continue get that production from Shelton and Jaworski if they plan to make a deep run in the state tournament.

“Devin’s athleticism against a tough Manchester team was the difference tonight, as for ‘Jaws’ he’s played at an All-State level for us this entire season and that definitely continued tonight,” said Edwards.

Shelton was key in the first half, as he scored 14 points and helped Tolland extend its lead to 27-15. However, Manchester turned up the intensity in the third quarter and the Tolland lead was eventually cut to two.

The message was simple heading in to the fourth quarter with Tolland up 41-35. Finish.

That’s when Jaworski took over.

“Coach looked at us and said ‘See what you’re made of’ and we came through,” said Jaworski.

After breaking Manchester’s difficult press, Jaworski got to the basket at will finishing with an array of moves and converting at the free throw line.

“I gotta give it to my teammates, it’s not just me out there, we move the ball around and I get the ball where I like it,” said Jaworski.

Tolland extended its season long win streak to five.

“What we lack in size and depth we make up for in hustle, heart and determination,” said Edwards.

The Indians got impressive performances from Evan Brown who scored 10 points to go along with Raekwan Canty’s eight.
