Student-Athlete Name: Danielle Markowski

Sports played: Volleyball, Unified Basketball and Softball

Academic Honors and Awards: I was selected as the secretary of our National Honor Society; I received the book prizes from both Saint Michael’s College and Mount Holyoke College, in addition I made honor roll all quarters of my high school career.  I was also chosen to represent Ellington High School as the Girls State Delegate.

Athletic Honors and Awards:  I have started varsity for softball since Freshmen year and was selected my junior year to the All-Conference team.

How do you prepare before a game/meet?: Honestly I don’t really do anything special before games during the high school season. Normally, all the girls and I just relax and talk.

What are you most looking forward to in regards to your winter season?: I am looking forward to Unified in general. I always say it is my favorite season just because of how positive everyone is. It is such a different atmosphere because winning or losing does not matter; no one even keeps score.

What has been your biggest highlight to date in your high school uniform?: My biggest highlight actually happened this past fall season. My volleyball team and I made it farther into the state tournament then I think anyone expected, and the best memory I have comes from the semifinal game when we played East Haven. That game was surreal, everyone was so focused at the task at hand it was crazy. We all played with so much heart and desire to win, and once we did it was like everything stopped. We all just stood there for a minute until it hit us that we made it to the state finals, something Ellington volleyball has not done in 33 years.

Who has been your biggest sports influence?: It definitely is my parents, they have always pushed me to be the best I can be and are never afraid to tell me when I can play better. This is something that I greatly appreciate and I know is the reason I am the person who I am today.

What are your plans beyond high school?: My plans beyond high schools are to continue doing what I love and attend college.
