Top Performers of the Week

A handful of boys basketball players had magnificent weeks for their teams. Somers star Doug Hostetler  helped SHS extend its winning streak to four games by averaging 32 points in wins against Putnam and Classical on Thursday and Friday, hitting a combined seven three pointers in the wins. Tolland’s Andrew Jaworski had a monster game in a loss to undefeated Bloomfield on Tuesday, scoring 19 points and grabbing 16 rebounds, and scored 24 on Friday in a win over E.O. Smith. Fermi senior Josh Pasini again had great games in two losses to Rockville and Blomfield. Pasini scored 27 points and recorded six assists and four steals against Rockville before scoring 22 three days later at Bloomfield. Finally, Windsor Locks standout Chavon George scored 29 points in a loss at Classical on Tuesday and helped his squad rebound on Friday with 16 in a win at East Windsor.

Girls Basketball

South Windsor forward Molly Murphy had arguably the best week of any local basketball player, recording two double-doubles and averaging 23 points and 15.5 rebounds in wins against Manchester and East Hartford. Murphy dominated the Indians inside on Tuesday with 32 points, 21 boards and four assists, and went for 14 and 10 on Friday while adding six steals.

Fellow big woman Mary Baskerville of Enfield had 17 points, 14 rebounds and five steals and blocks on Friday in a win against previously unbeaten Holyoke. Fellow sophomore teammate Danielle Delano was also outstanding in the win, scoring 23 and dishing on nine assists.

Fermi senior Tori Weatherwaxx scored a career-high 22 points in Friday’s overtime win at Bloomfield, and also had 19 three days before at Rockville. Suffield star McKenzie Rusczyk had another big scoring night in a loss at Canton on Friday, putting up 29 while hitting five threes. Caitlyn Gresh recorded a highly versatile performance for Ellington in Friday’s win against Stafford, scoring 17 points, grabbing eight steals and passing out seven assists. Finally, Emily Renzoni led Somers to a 55-52 win against Ellington on Tuesday by scoring 10 fourth-quarter points and making the game-winning free throws. The freshman also grabbed 12 rebounds.


Suffield/Granby/Windsor Locks trio Dan Bahl, Brendan Looney and Austin Rupp led the team to a 8-1 shellacking of Conard on Friday. Bahl recorded both three goals and assists, Looney scored twice and Rupp dished out four assists.

Fermi/Enfield/East Granby/Stafford senior forwards Thomas Vose and Matt Votta had strong weeks in two games. Votta had a hat trick and added an assist and Vose recorded two assists in Wednesday’s win against Farmington/Avon/Windsor/Lewis Mills, and Vose scored twice two days later in a loss to Bolton/Coventry/Rockville/RHAM.

East Catholic’s Cam Lauzon scored twice in Monday’s win against Suffield/Granby/Windsor Locks. East Catholic/Glastonbyr/South Windsor star Hannah Klim had two goals in Wednesday’s triumph against Lauralton Hall.
