Weekly College Notebook: Lindo, Bolden and Harrison Have Career Weeks for Programs

Eastern Connecticut basketball junior forward Hugh Lindo was named Little East Conference men’s Player-of-the-Week on Monday for the second time this season. The former Enfield High star averaged 17.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in wins against UMass Dartmouth and UMass Boston. Lindo scored a career-high 19 points on Thursday at Dartmouth and grabbed a season high 15 rebounds. On Saturday against UMass-Boston, he recorded his sixth consecutive double-double by going for 16 and 14, adding three steals. Lindo is ranked second in the LEC in rebounding (10.7), field goal percentage (57.0) and blocks per game (2.3).

Albertus Magnus sophomore forward Olivia Bolden had outstanding games in wins against Mount Ida and Rivier College on Saturday and Monday. Against Mount Ida, the South Windsor alum had a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Bolden had one of the best games of her short career two days later, scoring 31 points and grabbing 13 rebounds while earning 18 free throws, making 11. For the season, Bolden is averaging 17 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Hartford sophomore Janelle Harrison scored a career-high 18 points in a win at Vermont on Saturday, shooting 6-0f-13 from the field. Three days earlier, the former Cromwell High standout had another great game in a loss to Binghamton, scoring 15.

Women’s Basketball

Western New England junior forward Emily Anderson had an outstanding game in a win over Curry on Tuesday, as the Rocky Hill native scored 19 points while knocking down four three-pointers.

Men’s Basketball

Lindo’s teammates Trachone Preston and Tarchee Brown also played outstanding against Dartmouth. Preston led them in points with 25, making all 11 of his free throws, and recorded six assists. Brown had 18 points (13 in the second half) and four assists.  

Hockey

Trinity junior forward Ethan Holdaway scored twice in the Bantam’s exciting 4-3 victory over rival Colby on Friday. The former Glastonbury High star scored twice in the first period, beating the goalie high both times. Assumption junior forward and Enfield native Stephen Picard scored in a loss at Cortland State that same night.

Swimming 

Southern Connecticut sophomore Tyler Vander Vos had a great week for the Owls, winning multiple races in meets against Connecticut College and Le Moyne College. In the first meet last Wednesday, the South Windsor High alum took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.48 and third in the 100 free in 49 seconds. A week later, Vander Vos won both the 50 free and 200 backstroke in a win against Le Moyne with times of 22.07 and 2:03.34.

Bentley senior diver Colton Bridge won the three-meter board event on Tuesday at Babson, setting a program record of 3:18.30. The Tolland native also won the one-meter event with a dive of 292.05.

Wrestling 

Western New England junior Brian Donovan had a strong showing at the quad meet the program held on Saturday. The former Manchester High star went 2-1 in the 197 pound division, defeating Norwich’s Brian Giblin and Edmund Pierce of Johnson & Wales.
