Top Performers of the Week: Enfield’s Mary Baskerville Wins Tournament MVP

Enfield sophomore forward Mary Baskerville led the Warriors to the Enfield Rotary Classic tournament championship with two great performances against Fermi and Bacon Academy, earning tournament MVP. Baskerville scored 16 points and recorded eight blocks, three assists and three steals in Monday’s win against Fermi. The next night, she scored 17 in the team’s 51-47 triumph over Bacon.

Rockville junior guard Megan Hasty scored 22 points and added nine steals, eight rebounds and seven assists in last Wednesday’s win against Bloomfield. RHAM sophomore guard Lia Baroncini scored 22 the same night in a win over Tolland. Ellington senior Madi Lemire had a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards in Monday’s loss to Shelton. Finally, Glastonbury junior Hayley Newhouse had her best game of the season on Tuesday, scoring 17 in a win against East Catholic.

Men’s Basketball

Somers Doug Hostetler had the top week of any boys player, scoring 25 and 16 points in wins against Stafford and Three Rivers. The junior scored 12 fourth quarter points to help SHS rally last Tuesday, and then added five assists against Three Rivers. Teammates Garrett McCloskey and Hunter Bowers also played great against Three Rivers, with McCloskey scoring 22 points and Bowers putting up 15 and five steals.

Enfield big man Kumar Brown was a beat in two losses. The junior scored 15 points and grabbed 20 rebounds last week against Ellington, and scored 16 on Monday against Conard. Teammate Kyle Smith also played well against Conard, scoring 17 points.

Windsor Locks sophomore point guard Chavon George averaged 18 points in games against Coventry and Coginchaug. Teammate Matt Shaw scored 20 in last week’s win over Coventry.

The trio of Nick Casiano, Andrew Jaworski and Josh Pasini all had tremendous games last Wednesday in losses. Casiano scored 32 points for Rocky Hill in a loss to Platt, Jaworski put up 28 in Tolland’s loss to RHAM, and Pasini had 27 in Fermi’s loss to E.O. Smith.

Boys Hockey

Scott Swan and Jack McCluskey both had outstanding games in the Bobcats win against North Branford on Saturday. Swan scored three goals and recorded an assist, while McCluskey collected both a goal and assist.
