Ellington Clinches Pequot East Title

While this will be just the second time in five years that the Ellington football team won’t be headed to the post-season, that doesn’t mean the Knights have not been successful in 2015. Ellington claimed the Pequot East title with a 45-8 victory over Coventry in the teams’ annual Thanksgiving matchup.

Isiah Castro-Vega was the offensive standout for the Knights, carrying the ball nine times for 145 yards and four touchdowns. Senior Mark Hickman, who is the  Knights all-time leader in career touchdowns, caught two passes for 57 yards and a touchdown and also had a highlight reel interception return of 80 yards for a touchdown. Senior quarterback Christian Rider completed both of his passes to Hickman and finished with 57 yards passing.

Ellington, which had qualified for the Class M state tournament in 2o11, ’12 and ’14 moved to Class S this year, but a couple of regular season losses to Morgan-Clinton and Granby were enough to keep the Knights out of the tournament. Ellington finished 8-2 while Coventry ends its year at 0-10.
