Brackets Are Released for CIAC Tournaments

The brackets and schedule for this year’s CIAC soccer, field hockey and volleyball tournaments were released Friday morning. There are many local teams from schools The Sports Department covers competing in each tournament. The tournament seeds and schedules of these teams are listed below.

BOYS SOCCER (all first and second round games will be Tuesday and Thursday at 2 unless noted) 

Class LL

Glastonbury (14-2) is the No. 1 seed and is receiving a first round bye. It will play the winner of No. 16 West Haven and No. 17 Fairfield Warde Thursday at home. No. 4 South Windsor (13-2-1) will host No. 29 Norwalk (5-6-5) and will face either Hall or Staples with a win.

Class L

Suffield (16-0) also received a No. 1 seed and first round bye. It will then face either No. 16 RHAM (10-5-1) or No. 17 Cheney Tech (9-5-1).

Class M 

No. 4 Tolland(13-2-1) will host No. 29 Wolcott Tech (5-8-3) and will face either Ansonia or Woodland with the win. No. 17 Ellington (8-4-4) will play at No. 16 Norwich Tech (9-5-2). If it wins, it will have a daunting matchup with top seed Lewis Mills. Finally, No. 23 Rocky Hill (8-6-2) will travel to No. 10 Wilcox Tech (10-3-3), and a win would set up a contest with either Waterford or Sheehan.

Class S

No. 8 Somers (10-5-1) will host No. 25 Amistad (6-7-2) and could advance to play either St. Paul or Aerospace. No. 14 Cromwell (8-5-2) will face No. 19 HMTCA (8-8) Tuesday at 4:00 and would meet either Old Lyme or Portland in the second round. No. 20 Windsor Locks (7-7-2) will travel to No. 13 Litchfield (9-5-2) and will face either Two Rivers or Coginchaug with the win.

GIRLS SOCCER (all first and second round games on Monday and Wednesday at 2:00 unless otherwise noted)

Class LL  

The Glastonbury girls (16-0) joined the boys as a No. 1 seed. It will face either Darien or Staples in the second round. No. 9 South Windsor (11-4-1) will host No. 24 Conard (7-8-1) and will play either Greenwich or Cheshire with the win. No. 21 Manchester (7-6-3) will travel to No. 12 Mercy (8-4-4). A victory would have it traveling to New Milford, which possesses a first round bye.

Class L

No. 2 Suffield (16-0) and No. 4 RHAM (15-0-1) both have first round byes. Suffield will face either Bacon Academy or Wethersfield if it wins, while RHAM will face either Ledyard or Pomperaug. No. 24 Rockville (6-7-3) will travel to No. 9 Lauralton (12-3-1) and could then meet either Farmington or Foran.

Class M

No. 5 Tolland (12-2-1) will clash with No. 28 Griswold (7-8-1) Tuesday at 4:00. If it wins, they could face No. 12 Enfield (10-2-4), which is hosting No. 21 Plainfield (9-6-1) in the first round. No. 13 Ellington (11-4-1) will play No. 20 Haddam-Killingworth (7-4-3) and would face either Nonnewaug or Seymour in round two. No. 16 Rocky Hill (10-5-1) hosts No. 17 Oxford (10-5-1), with a win setting up a battle with-top seeded Woodland. No. 30 Cromwell (5-8-3) will clash with No. 3 Northwest Catholic (14-1-1) and would play either Bullard Haven or East Hampton with the win.

Class Sarned the No. 5 seed and a first round bye. It will play either West Haven or Kennedy in the second round. No. 11 

No. 16 Somers (8-6-2) will play No. 17 Coginchaug (7-6-2) and possibly No. 1 Housatonic. No. 21 East Windsor (7-7-2) will travel to No. 21 Windham Tech (10-6) and then Old Lyme with the win. Finally, No. 24 Windsor Locks (6-9-1) will meet No. 9 HMTCA (11-4-1)before possibly facing either Holy Cross or Litchfield.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL (all first and second round games will be Monday and Thursday at 6:00 unless noted otherwise)

Class LL

Glastonbury (17-3) earned the No. 5 seed and a first round bye and will face either West Haven or Kennedy in the second round. No. 11 South Windsor (15-5) will meet No. 22 New Milford (10-10) and then Ridgefield with the win.

Class L

RHAM (18-0) earned the top seed and will face either Branford or Woodstock.

Class M

No. 7 Ellington (14-6) will have a first round bye and then face either Plainfield or Foran Wednesday at 6:00. No. 16 Tolland (10-10) will host No. 17 Prince (10-10) in the first round before meeting top-seeded Woodland Wednesday at 6:00 with the win. No. 20 Suffield (9-11) will travel to No. 14 St. Joseph (12-8) before possibly meeting Waterford Wednesday. Finally, No. 25 Rockville (8-12) will play No. 8 Northwestern (12-6) and could face Nonnewaug or Kaynor Tech Wednesday in the second round.

Class S

No. 22 Cromwell (11-9) will travel to No. 11 Oxford (14-6) and then face either Capitol Prep or Bolton Wednesday with the win.

FIELD HOCKEY 

Glastonbury (14-0-1) is the top seed in Class L and will face either NFA or Hamden on Wednesday in the first round at 2:00 and then either Simsbury or Greenwich in the quarterfinals with the win. South Windsor (11-4-0-1) is the No. 7 seed in L and will host No. 10 Staples (9-5-1) Wednesday at 2:00 and then have a possible quarterfinal matchup with Conard, Newtown or Amity. Enfield (12-3-1) is the No. 7 seed in Class S and will host No. 10 Valley Regional (11-3-0-2) Tuesday at 3:00 and then face either Immaculate or Stafford with the win.
