Endicott field hockey star Ashleigh Allen and Quinnipiac cross country runner Matt Mensher were honored with conference awards this past week.

Allen, who played at Glastonbury High, was named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference All-CCC Team and received the Co-Defensive Player of the Year award along with Allison Gould of Salve Regina. The senior has started every game and leads the team in assists with 10.

Mensher, who ran for Tolland High, finished 15th overall at Saturday’s Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships with a time of 24:29.2. The senior’s outstanding finish earned him All-MAAC honors. Mensher will compete in the 2015 Northeast Regionals on November 13th.

Jenny Jacobs

The Fairfield University soccer player was honored with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Player of the Week award, the first Stag ever to receive it. The freshman, who starred at Tolland High, earned the award after recording a hat trick in last Wednesday’s win against St. Peters in the season final. Jacobs scored the three goals in a 29-minute span of the first half, and is the first Stag since 1996 to notch a hat trick in a single half. Jacobs led Fairfield in goals this season with six.

Rachel Gagnon

The Assumption College swimmer and Tolland native had strong performances in the Greyhounds wins against Mount Holyoke and vs Pace and SUNY Purchase in a dual meet. In the second meet on Halloween, Gagnon won the 100 breastroke in 1:09.36 and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay, which won in 1:53.92. Against Mount Holyoke, the senior was also a member of the winning 200 medley team, which finished in 1:52.77.

Ben Woodhouse

The Brandeis goalkeeper and former Suffield High star had a very strong week in three Judges wins. The sophomore recorded shutouts in 1-0 wins over Lasell and Emory, and now has eight on the season. Woodhouse then made five saves in Sunday’s 2-1 win against Rochester, which clinched the University Athletic Association title for Brandeis and earned it a berth in this year’s Division III Tournament.
