RecFest 2015 a Big Success for Hartwell Soccer

Glastonbury’s Hartwell Soccer Club hosted RecFest 2015 on Saturday and Sunday at Glastonbury High School. The RecFest was hosted in partnership with Kohls US Youth Soccer American Cup. The event featured multiple games between Hartwell’s youth soccer teams, as well as organized soccer activities, prizes and souvenirs for participants and ‘larger-than-life’ inflatable soccer games. The RecFest also featured a free photo booth, face painting and food from NORA Cupcakes and the Silver Platter Mobile Cafe.

“The mission for this tournament was to have our recreation program come together in a tournament-like atmosphere and celebrate it,” said Tim Gourley, one of the RecFest organizers. “We have about 1,200 kids from kindergarten through eighth grade participating in the program.”

“We were looking to get the whole Glastonbury community pulling together as well,” said Recreation Director Ron Marek.

“I saw a lot of kids with smiles today (Saturday) and enjoying our photo booth and some of the other attractions we had like the inflatables,” Gourley said.

“Kids have also been enjoying being able to compete in a round-robin format and playing multiple games,” Marek said.

“This event has been all about cultivating a love of soccer in our rec players, and when you see them having fun it means that we’ve been successful in our goals,” Andy Pinkowski said.

Sean Altius, the coach of the Blue Rhinos team, said that he and his players had a great time participating in the RecFest.

“The kids really enjoyed being able to compete and play more teams than we normally would, especially those we’ve only heard about,” Altius said. “It has been wonderful to see the community come together for our program this weekend.”
