South Windsor Runners Finish First At Invitational

Top Performers of the Week  

The South Winsor High cross country program was well represented in Saturday’s Harry Geraghty Invitational at Rockville High. In a race that lasted 3.03 miles, senior Michael Stoker won the boys large school division with a time of 16:23. Meanwhile, fellow senior Kaitlin Bakas took first place in the girl’s large school race with a time of 19:30.

Bakas led the Bobcats girls squad to the large school girls team title. The seven South Windsor runners South Windsor runners all finished in the top 24, and its top five runners finished with a combined score of 35. The Bobcats boys team finished second behind Manchester.

Fermi sophomore Sydney Nash first in the girls small school varsity race with a time of 19:33. In addition, the Somers High team won this race with a score of 42.


A number of local players had strong weekends on the gridiron. Ellington senior quarterback Christian Rider rushed for two touchdowns and threw a 28-yard touchdown to Mark Hickman in a 30-7 win over Stafford/East Windsor Somers. Rocky Hill sophomore running back Joe Catania rushed for 164 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-20 win against Plainville. Catania’s signature play was a 59-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Finally, Glastonbury senior running back Jake Madnick scored three touchdowns and ran for 156 yards on seven carries in the Tomahawks hard-fought loss to Southington. Madnick scored on runs of 66, 9, and 61 yards.
