Local Teams Doing Well in American Legion Tournaments

A number of local teams have performed well in the Senior and Junior American Legion State Tournaments this past weekend. All the teams have competed in the North Division brackets. Below is a rundown of all the results as well as information about the game schedule for the squads that are still alive.

SENIOR LEGION TOURNAMENT   

Tolland-No. 5. Tolland defeated No. 20 Windsor 11-1 in the first round and No. 13 Meriden 2-0 in the second round. Nick Paasch went seven innings against Meriden to claim the win. Tolland will face No.  4 New London in a best of three series beginning on Wednesday.

Enfield-No. 9. Enfield defeated No. 16 Avon 5-0 in the first round before losing 6-0 at Jewett City on Sunday. Enfield ends the season 18-8.

Windsor Locks-No. 15. Windsor Locks fell 2-0 to No. 10 Waterford in the first round. It finishes the season 13-12.

Glastonbury-No. 19. Glastonbury lost 3-1 to No. 12 Terryville in the first round. It ends the season 10-15.

RCP and South Windsor earned first and second-round byes by winning Zone 7 and Zone 8, respectively. No. 2 RCP will play No. 7 West Hartford in a best of three series beginning on Wednesday, while top-seeded South Windsor will face off against Jewett City.

Note: The teams that win the series will advance to the Final 4 Tournament to be held in South Windsor this weekend.

Junior Legion Tournament

Tolland-Top-seeded Tolland defeated No.16 Madison 6-4 on Sunday to advance to the second round. It will host No. 8 Niantic Tuesday afternoon.

RCP-No. 2 RCP defeated No. 15 Windsor 5-1 in the first round. It will face off against No. 10 Simsbury in the second round.

Ellington-No. 6 Ellington was upset by No. 13 Manchester in the first round, losing 4-1. It dropped to the loser’s bracket, where it will host No. 3 Ledyard/Pawcatuck on Tuesday.

South Windsor-No. 9 South Windsor lost 5-1 to No. 8 Niantic. It will try to get back on track by defeating No. 16 Madison.
