Ellington All-Stars Keep Rolling

MANCHESTER – Ellington’s 10-11 year old All-Stars successfully defended their District 8 title with a 4- 2 victory over Manchester National, Wednesday night at Manchester’s Dettore Field. Brandon Zahner pitched 5 and 1/3 innings for the victory. Ellington jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on singles from Zac Killoran and Luke Wearne and a big two out RBI single by Zahner.

Manchester scored in the top of the third inning after a leadoff double by JJ Kropp and an RBI single by David Hernandez. Ellington added two insurance runs in the fifth inning with a leadoff walk to Tanner Flori, a single by Killoran, and a 2 RBI single by Wearne. Manchester added a run in the sixth inning but Killoran came on to get the final two outs to get the save.

Defensive standouts for Ellington were Luke Wearne and Ethan Sgarlata. Jonah Nielsen pitched a strong game for Manchester National and Joe Maulucci was a defensive standout for Manchester National. Ellington will next play on Friday and Saturday in Tolland against the District 11 and District 12 champions Colchester and Tolland.

11-12’s Advance To District Championship Game
ELLINGTON – Ellington’s 11-12 All-Stars defeated South Windsor 12-2 to advance to the District 8 finals. Matt Curtis jump started Ellington with a 3-run homer in the first inning. Ellington didn’t stop there though when Ryan Shaw singled, stole 2nd, and scored when Logan Macaluso singled up the middle to make the score 4-0.
South Windsor cut the lead to 4-1 when Brian Allard singled and scored on a fielder’s choice. Mike Weare Jr. started Ellington’s 2nd inning with a single, and with 2 on Frank Mozzicato singled to load the bases. Jason Leslie then doubled to knock in 2 runs and with 2 outs Ryan Shaw (2nd hit of the game) singled home Ellington’s 7th run making the score 7-1.
Jordan Dill started South Windsor’s 3rd inning with a double and with 1 out Nick Santini knocked him in to close the gap to 7-2. Ellington answered in their half of the 3rd inning with a leadoff walk by Anthony Massaro, a 2 out double knocking him in by Garrett Phelps and a 2 run homerun by Frank Mozzicato (3rd hit of the game). Ellington started their rally in the 4th with 1 out when Jack Olender singled, Ryan Shaw walked, Logan Macaluso singled (2nd hit of the game) one run in and Chris Wrona knocked in the 12th run of the game to end the game.
Frank Mozzicato pitched a complete game for Ellington. He allowed three hits, with seven strikeouts and one walk. Ellington will host Enfield in the District 8 championship at 6 p.m. Friday night at Brookside Park in Ellington.
