South Windsor SAM: Mimi Otaluka

Mimi is an honor roll student in the classroom. On the track, she is an eight time All-Conference recipient, three time All-State recipient, and two time All-New England recipient. She is the 2014 Indoor 300m State Open champion and holds five school records.

How Mimi prepares for a meet: Before a meet, I make sure to visualize my race and make sure that I’m mentally prepared for what I need to do.

What Mimi was most excited about this season: This season, I was most excited about finally being injury free and getting back into top shape for my final year of high school sports.

Mimi’s most memorable moment as a high school athlete: In the 2015 outdoor State Open, I was the runner up in the 400m by .02 seconds. It’s my most memorable moment because not only was it the closest race I’ve ever competed in, it was also after a year of injury and not running very well so I was just really happy to have been in the position to compete.

What Mimi hopes to accomplish this season: This season, I hope to get new personal records in the 400m and 200m and place in the top three at the New England championships

Mimi’s favorite college or pro athlete: Serena Williams because she’s so powerful.

Mimi’s college plans: I will be attending Clemson University in the fall.
