Baseball and Sotball State Tournament Results

Below are the results of first and second round CIAC Tournament games for all the baseball teams in The Sports Department’s coverage area as well as information about a number of the games. Three softball teams (South Windsor, Tolland, Rocky Hill) are still alive entering the third round.

BASEBALL

WEDNESDAY

Class LL

No. 13 South Windsor 2, No. 20 Cheshire 1: Zack Sultar threw a complete game three-hitter, striking out9. Joe Tamburro drove in both of the Bobcats runs.

No. 3 Glastonbury 8, No. 30 Danbury 7 (9):

Class L

No. 21 New London 4, No. 12 Fermi 2: New London scored twice in the sixth against Greg Kraucanus to take a 4-0 lead. Fermi mounted a rally in the seventh with 2 runs, but ended the game by striking out with the bases loaded. Fermi’s final record is 14-7.

No. 4 E.O. Smith 3, No. 29 RHAM 0: Anthony Stigler went 2-3 and drove in all of E.O. Smith’s runs. Tyler Brett struck out 6 in the losing effort. The Sachems end the season 9-12.

Class M

No. 15 Tolland 6, No. 18 Univ./Classical 0: Ben Clough allowed just 1 hit in the win, and Cody Ouellette had 2 hits.

No. 20 Ellington 6, No. 13 Prince Tech 0:

No. 23 Rocky Hill 4, No. 10 Bullard Havens 1:

No. 12 Ledyard 1, No. 21 Suffield 0: Kyle Haney tossed a four-hitter, striking out 13. Anthony Viteritto drove in the winning run in the sixth inning. Suffield ends the season with a record of 11-10.

Class S

No. 2 Somers 4, No. Terryville 2: Brian Hollister went 1-3 with an RBI and recorded 2 strikeouts in the 7th to earn the save. Anthony Barile had 2 RBI for SHS.

No. 27 Northwest Catholic 3, No. 6 Cromwell 1 (10): The Panthers end the season with a record of 14-7.

No. 17 Coginchaug 9, No. 16 Windsor Locks 4: Windsor Locks ends the season with a record of 11-9.

THURSDAY

Class LL

No. 14  Amity 6, No. 3 Glastonbury 3: The Tomahawks suffered the upset, as the Spartans got valuable contributions from a number of players. Mike Appel led the way with 2 RBI and hit 2 doubles, and winning starter Elias Oliphant allowed five hits in six innings, all singles. Ian Halpin, Joe Mercier and Mike Mastromarino each had an RBI for Glastonbury. The Tomahawks end the season with a record of 17-5.

No. 4 Staples 7, No. 13 South Windsor 0: Ryan Fitton held the Bobcats to just four hits in a shutout win. Ben Casparius had four RBIs, including a three-run home run. South Windsor ends the season with a record of 14-8

Class M

No. 2 Montville 6, No. 15 Tolland 4: Tolland ends the season with a record of 12-10.

No. 4 Sheehan 5, No. 20 Ellington 0: Ellington ends the season with a record of 11-10.

No. 7 Oxford 4, No. 23 Rocky Hill 0: The Terriers allowed home runs to Adam Baktis and Tim Stordy. Rocky Hill ends the season with a record of 11-11.

Class S

No. 15 Career 5, No. 2 Somers 1: Career scored all its runs in the first two innings, and shut down the Somers offense from that point on. Alex Bunnell threw a complete game 7-hitter for CHS. Somers ends the season with a record of 18-4.    

SOFTBALL

WEDNESDAY

CLASS LL

No. 4 South Windsor 1, No. 29 West Haven 0: Maddy Donahue scored the walk off run with o outs in the 7th on a throwing error. Peyton Silverman was magnificent on the mound, allowing just one hit and striking out 15.

No. 6 Newtown 15, No. 27 Glastonbury 0: Nil Galante earned the win while striking out 9, and Katie Laaksonen had three RBI. The Tomahawks end the season with a record of 9-11.

Class L

No. 24 RHAM 2, No. 9 Barlow 1: The Sachems earned the upset behind the arm of Kristi Van Meter, who had 18 strikeouts and allowed just 3 hits. Ally Taylor had 2 hits and an RBI for RHAM.

CLASS M

No. 6 Tolland 6, No. 27 East Hampton 5: Tolland smacked seven straight hits in the sixth inning, scoring six runs.

No. 7 Rocky Hill 21, No. 26 Prince Tech 1: Jess Greenspan earned the win.

No. 17 Ellington 6, N0. 16 Suffield 2: Bri Deland was 3-4 with 2 runs for Ellington. Suffield ends the season 15-6.

No. 4 North Branford 12, No. 29 Fermi 1: Fermi ends the season 8-13.

Class S

No. 26 Cromwell 12, No. 7 MLC 1: The Panthers earned the surprising blowout win thanks to strong performances by Elena Masiello, Taylor Wood and Megan Fazekas. Masiello allowed just one hit while striking out 7, and Wood and Fazekas had four and three hits, respectively. Fazekas also scored four runs.

THURSDAY 

CLASS LL

No. 4 South Windsor 4, No. 13 Mercy 1: Peyton Silverman followed up her great first round performance by throwing a 4-hitter and striking out 9. The Bobcats will face No. 5 Stamford on Saturday at 4:00.

Class L

No.20 North Haven 3, No. 4 Rockville 0: Rockville had just three hits against Haley Arnaoutis in the upset loss. Rockville ends the season at 16-5.

No. 8 Sheehan 6, No. 24 RHAM 0: Missy Pereira allowed two hits and struck out 13 for Sheehan, and Mikaeyla Daddio had two doubles, two runs and an RBI. The Sachems end e season with a record of 10-12.

Class M

No. 6 Tolland 2, No. 11 Northwestern 0: Amaria Sharon threw a complete game shutout for Tolland, striking out 10. THS will host No. 19 East Catholic Friday at 3:30.

No. 7 Rocky Hill 4, No. 10 Granby 2: Jess Greenspan had 8 strikeouts and Brittaney Murray went 2-3 with an RBI and run scored in the win. The Terries will play at No. 2 Oxford Friday at 4:00.

No. 1 St. Joseph 8, No. 17 Ellington 0: Ellington ends the senason with a record of 15-6.

Class S

No. 23 Tourtellette 6, No. 26 Cromwell 5: Taylor Woo belted a three-run homer for the Panthers in a frustrating loss. Cromwell ends the season at 11-13.
