Top Performers of the Week

Below is the list of top performers for local teams for the week of  May 18-23.

BASEBALL

Greg Kraucanus and Brian Cunningham, Fermi: Kraucanus struck out nine batters and held Tolland scoreless in Wednesday’s extra-inning win. Cunningham, a junior, drove in the game’s only run with a two-out walk-off single in the ninth. Two days later, Kraucanus went 2-3 with a home run and 3 RBI in a win at Enfield.

Dave Sevigny and Brian Batalis, Rocky Hill: The senior duo carried the Terriers to a 2-0 win over rival Berlin. Sevigny threw 7 outstanding innings, striking out 5, before Batalis smashed a walk-off home run.

Ryan Gagliardi, East Windsor: The senior brought his “A” game in a blowout win against Bolton. Gagliardi punched out 10 batters while going 4-5 with a double, homer and 4 RBI.

Justin Olson, Avon: The sophomore tossed a complete game shutout against Suffield, striking out 11 and allowing just two hits.

Mike Lesco, Somers: The senior captain earned a win at Canton with 3 1/3 strong innings of relief. At the plate, Lesco went 3-4 with 2 RBI.     

SOFTBALL

Amari Sharon, Tolland: The junior had outstanding hitting and pitching performances in wins. Sharon earned wins against Fermi and RHAM0, punching out 14 RHAM hitters. She also went 3-3 with 3 RBI against Tolland.      

Kristi Van Meter, RHAM: Struck out 14 hitters against both Fermi and Tolland. Van Meter also hit doubles and drove in 3 runs in the Tolland win.

Jessica Maier, Enfield: The sophomore went 3-4 with 3 RBI and scored 5 runs in a win at SMSA.

Megan Gagne, Somers: The freshman’s 2-run walk-off double gave SHS a 9-8 win over Canton.

Peyton Silverman, South Windsor: Threw a complete game shutout at Windsor, striking out 16.

BOYS LACROSSE

Shaun Monaghan and Greg St. Germain, Rockville: Monaghan scored a combined 17 goals in four games, two of them wins. Germain’s goal with 12 seconds left gave RHS an 8-7 win over Ellington.

Jared Anderson, Rocky Hill: The senior scored 7 goals in a win against St. Paul.

Ray McCarthy, Somers: Led the way with 9 goals in a 19-1 drubbing of Suffield.

Riley Daigle, Tolland: The senior put on a show during the final week of his high school career, scoring a combined 13 goals in 3 games.

Mike Lupone, Suffield: The junior’s 18 saves helped SHS to a hard-fought 13-11 win at Tolland.

GIRLS LACROSSEs

Caitlin Gilligan, Lauren Crusha, Becca Russo, South Windsor: Gilligan, a senior, made a combined 37 saves against Farmington and Berlin. Crusha scored the go-ahead goal in overtime to give the Bobcats a 10-9 win at Berlin. Russo, a junior, scored three goals in a win against Stamford.

Alyssa Powers and Gina Carroll, Ellington: Powers scored five goals and Carroll made 19 saves against Avon.

VOLLEYBALL

Zach Hirsch, Dillon DeSouza, Justin Rankin, Enfield: DeSouza had outstanding games against Lewis Mills. DeSouza smacked 17 kills, while Hirsch recorded 28 assists and 9 digs. Rankin had 12 kills and 10 digs at Wolcott Tech.

Connor Johnson, Glastonbury: The junior stretched for 22 digs against Newington.

Nick Carey, Fermi: The senior obtained 15 kills against Conard.

Brandon Baker, South Windsor: The sophomore’s 11 kills helped lead the Bobcats to a five-set win at Rockville.
