How Andrew prepares for a match: Preparing for a match is tough process. Getting plenty of rest the night before and getting a good night’s sleep is vital. In addition, drinking lots of fluids throughout the day, such as water and Gatorade, is very important to make sure I am hydrated for the day’s match. Typically, I eat a light lunch the day of the match and I make sure I am focused on the match by listening to music on the bus rides before matches, or for home matches I will listen to music in my car. Lastly, I always talk with my Coach, Dave Chassanoff, about what I have been doing well lately and what I should try to do in that day’s match. Typically I talk with my coach before every match and go over a match plan that I translate into the match.

What Andrew is most excited about this season: I am very excited about the upcoming 2015 season. I am most excited about having a well-rounded individual season at No. 1 singles and winning as much as I can. However, team tennis matches are not won individually, they are won as a team. I am excited to work with my teammates to improve their game so Tolland boys tennis can have a successful team season. I am excited to qualify individually for the State tournament and qualify as a team as well.

Andrew’s most memorable moment as a high school athlete: My most memorable moment was winning the 2013 Class M Doubles State tournament. My partner and I faced multiple match points in our semifinal match versus Guilford and to have the resolve to fight back and earn a spot against Avon in the final was very memorable. However, after losing the first set to Avon in the final, we came back and won that match. Hugging my partner and winning the State Championship is the most memorable moment in my high school tennis career, so far.

What Andrew hopes to accomplish this season: I set high goals for myself. I hope to have a very successful season. I want to finish the regular season with a very strong overall record and be a top three seed in the Class M singles state tournament. With that being said, I hope to contend and ultimately win the Class M singles state championship. Receiving another All-State honor and winning a singles state championship is an aggressive goal, but one that I know I can achieve with lots of hard work and determination.

Andrew’s favorite pro or college athlete: Roger Federer

Andrew’s college plans: I am verbally committed to playing Division II tennis at Franklin Pierce University and intend on majoring in Business.
