Top Performers of the Week

Below are The Sports Department nominations for top athletes of the week in our cover are for the week of April 13-18.

SOFTBALL

Peyton Silverman, South Windsor-The junior hurler was a beast in her three starts. Silverman threw a perfect game against Weaver, striking out 14 batters, and struck out 21 earlier in the week in a win at Manchester. Overall, Silverman went 2-1 and earned 47 punch outs on the week. Silverman also came up big at the plate against Weaver, going 3-6 with 5 RBI.

Lisa Lusardi, Fermi-The senior helped the Falcons to a perfect week. Lusardi threw strong games in wins against Hartford Public and Bloomfield, striking out nine hitters in each. In the week’s first win against Hall, she went 2-3 with 3 RBI.

Julianne Slavin, Rocky Hill-The junior hit two homers and drove in six runs in a 6-1 win against EO Smith.  

Lina Nguyen, South Windsor-The senior went 3-3 with 6 RBI against South Windsor, scoring 4 times.

BASEBALL

Tim Pfaffenbickler, South Windsor-The freshman made a big impression in his first start for the team, striking out 12 SMSA batters in a 4-2 win.

Caleb Tourtelotte, Rockville-The junior keyed the offense in a blowout win against Bloomfield, going 5-5 with 4 RBI and 4 runs scored.

James Harney, Ellington-The senior smacked 4 hits and drove in 3 runs in a 20-0 win over East Windsor while also scoring 5 runs.

Jake Siracusa, South Windsor-The junior went 3-4 and hit a home run in a win over Conard, driving in 3.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Hannah Davies, Avon-The sophomore combined to score 15 goals in games against Somers and Granby Memorial. Her eighth goal with 32 seconds left in overtime clinched a 12-11 win at GMHS.

Danielle Hollister, Somers-The junior scored a combined 15 goals in home wins against Valley Regional, Avon and Ellington.

Sierra Hibbs, South Windsor-The senior scored a combined 9 goals at Simsbury and Norwich Free Academy. Hibbs 5 scores propelled the Bobcats to a 15-8 win over NFA.

Abby Wylie, Ellington: The sophomore scored a combined 7 goals in losses at Canton and Somers.

Madie Renaud, Somers-The junior scored a combined 8 goals against Valley and Ellington.

Anna Conley, Somers-The junior scored four goals against both Valley and Avon.

BOYS LACROSSE

Domenic Giachello, Somers-The sophomore scored a combined 9 goals in wins at Ellington and Tolland. 

Mike Hawkins, Glastonbury-The sophomore scored 4 goals each in wins at East Catholic and East Lyme.

Ray McCarthy, Somers-Led the Spartans with six goals in a 12-11 overtime win against rival Avon.

Shaun Monaghan, Rockville-The senior scored five times in a win at Woodstock Academy.

VOLLEYBALL

Boomer Romano, Enfield-The senior led the Raiders to a 3-2 win at Lewis Mills with 17 digs and 12 kills.

Igor Biahliak, Rockville-The senior’s 16 kills and 10 aces helped the Rams to a 3-1 victory at Wethersfield.

Tyler Porcello, Fermi-The senior earned 22 assists in a loss against Newington.
