RHAM Male SAM Gordon Perrett

Name: Gordon Perrett

Sports played: Track and field, specifically pole vault, the 400m and the 4x200m relay.

Academic accomplishments: The past two quarters during my junior year I made high honors in school.  I also made honors freshman year and part of sophomore year. I was elected as the President of my class (2016) and have been so for all of high school thus far.

Athletic accomplishments: I have ran four seasons, three of them on varsity. My personal record for pole vault is 11 feet in indoor and outdoor. In the 400 hundred I run a sub 56-second race. This year, I placed second at CCCs (Central Connecticut Conference) in pole vault and made All-Conference. I am also team captain this year.

How I prepare for a game: When I prepare for a race, there is the customary warm ups to help prevent injury and make your muscles warm and ready to run fast. The same goes for pole vault, but there is a much more mental aspect to it. I have to envision myself getting over the bar and really try to just keep the task at hand on my mind. You can’t vault distracted, it doesn’t go well.

What are you most excited about this season? I have qualified for states for the 4x200m relay and pole vault, and I plan to have a personal record in both. For pole vault, I would like to break our school record of 12 feet. I am very close to the record.

Most memorable moment as a high school athlete: Probably this year at CCCs. I had been having a fairly off season and during this meet I decided to try something a little new with the help of my coaches. Sure enough, it solved the problem and I went home with a second place medal and the title of All Conference.

What do you hope to accomplish this season: I want to earn the school record, but the outdoor season is where my huge goals lie. I am planning to work hard and get my 400m time down to a 51.75 to beat our school record.

Favorite pro or college athlete: Sergey Bubka is one of the best pole-vaulters in the world and held the record for a very long time. He still has pretty much the most technically correct vault ever.  He continued to break his own record time after time.

College plans:  For college, I would like to major in engineering. I hope to run track as well. I think the 400m is where a lot of my potential lies.
