Ellington Student Athlete of the Month Danny Hayes

School: Ellington
Name: Daniel (Danny) Hayes
Sports Played: Football, Basketball, and Baseball

Danny has been an Honor Roll student every quarter of high school, has made High Honors the past three quarters, and has received the scholar athlete award for each sports season since freshman year. He was named captain of the football team, has received a 7 varsity letter blanket, and finished third in the Pequot Football conference and fifth in Class M with five interceptions for the 2014 season.

How Danny prepares for a game: I usually eat the same breakfast – especially before football games. Before any game, I always visualize myself doing my job and making plays and shockingly, I never listen to music before games.

What Danny is most excited about this season: Just getting back on the field/court and training with my team. The camaraderie with all my teammates and doing something I love with them is great.

Danny’s most memorable moment as a high school athlete: The first game of this past football season in which we became the first Ellington team to beat Avon in Avon. It was a great team victory to beat our biggest rivals and set the tone for our run to the playoffs. The game was also my best game in my high school career. We all became one that day and that is how we continued for the rest of the season; it was a great game and a great win.

What Danny hopes to accomplish each season: I hope to win the conference in all my sports and win at least one state title. I also hope to be named All-Conference in each sport.

Danny’s  favorite pro or college athlete: Tom Brady

Danny’s college plans: I plan to attend college and pursue a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
