RHAM Youth Football A Squad Wins League Championship

The RHAM Youth Football A Squad captured the Northern Connecticut Football League A Team Championship in November with a 24-8 victory over rivals Stafford.

RHAM entered the game as underdogs after losing 32-6 to 10-0 Stafford earlier in the season. But when it mattered most, RHAM found an extra gear. The Sachems defense shut down Stafford’s offense, and their offense made big plays when needed.

“We prepared hard on defense and came into the game confident and with a good game plan, and we just executed it,” A Squad coach Andy Bordick said. “On offense, we made some big plays in the passing game that opened things up.”

Bordick praised his team for its focus and chemistry.

“The players were so selfless that they would sacrifice individual accomplishments for the good of the team,” he said.

After going 7-1 in the regular season, RHAM advanced to the championship game with decisive playoff wins over Suffield and Colchester.  It was the fourth time that the A Squad has advanced to the championship game.

21 players from Bordick’s team will begin playing for the RHAM High School program next season. He is confident that they can be successful at that level.

“Everything they have learned as a group will pay off. They will be rewarded by their focus,” Bordick said.
