Ellington/Somers and Glastonbury Football Qualify for State Playoffs

The Glastonbury and Ellington/Somers football teams have qualified for the CIAC state playoffs and will compete in the semifinals this Saturday.

Ellington/Somers earned the No. 3 seed in Class M-Small division and will play at No. 2 St. Joseph-Trumbull (9-2) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Knights, who finished 9-2 during the regular season, enter the playoffs with a lot of momentum after blowing out Conventry/Windham/RV/Bolton 47-12 in the season finale. Ellington/Somers last made the M playoffs in 2012, losing to Weston in the quarterfinals.

Glastonbury earned the No. 4 seed in LL-Large division and will play at No. 1 Southington (10-0) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The Tomahawks finished 8-3 overall in the regular season, winning eight of nine games following an 0-2 start. They lost 41-38 at Southington in the season opener.  Glastonbury defeated both No. 2 Norwich Free Academy and No. 3 New Britain during the regular season. This is the seventh consecutive season the program has qualified for the LL playoffs.
