Glastonbury tops girls soccer poll

Glastonbury girls soccer won yet another Class LL state title this past weekend with a heart-stopping 2-1 victory over Fairfield Warde. And now the Tomahawks have been recognized as the top team in the state by the CT State Girls Soccer Coaches Association.

Glastonbury garnered seven of the eight first place votes to edge out Fairfield Ward once again for the top spot with 79 points. Fairfield Ward was second with 68. Immaculate-Danbury received the only other first place vote and finished third in the Class LL/L poll with 66 points. RHAM-Hebron was voted to the 12 spot while South Windsor was 15th.

In the Class M/S poll East Catholic-Manchester was voted No.1.  Ellington native Nicole Garfield was the hero for the Eagles, scoring the game winning goals in both the semifinal and championship games. East Catholic received seven of the eight first place votes. Suffield, which finished third behind Weston in the poll also received a first place vote from the coaches. Other area teams ranked included Tolland (5th) and Rocky Hill (11th)
