Tolland SAM Courtney Akerley

Courtney has made the honor roll every semester of high school, is a National Honor Society member, and has made the All-Academic team in all sports. She led her team to three Class M State Championships and a State Open Championship in cross country, and was the individual Class M state champion in cross country in 2013. Courtney has made All-State three times, All-New England, and is a 3-time MVP for cross country. She has also been named All-Conference in basketball and track. Courtney has been a 3-time Class M state champion in track.

How Courtney prepares for a meet: Goofing around with my teammates and doing our pre-race cheer. Also talking to my dad always calms me down. Ever since middle school, he has gotten me through the hardest parts of this sport. My dad’s approach to the sports that I have played have helped me achieve goals I never thought possible, and I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.

What Courtney is most excited for this season: I am really excited for the State Open championships this season. But mostly just spending almost every single day with my incredible teammates for the next few months.

Courtney’s most memorable moment as a high school athlete: Winning State Opens last year – it was an incredible team victory.

What Courtney hopes to accomplish this season: I hope to be 2-time State Open champion and for our team to do great at New Englands.

Courtney’s college plans: To run cross country and track.
