Nothing would be finer…

…for RCP than to be in Carolina in the morning (or sometime tomorrow).

The Rocky Hill-Cromwell-Portland Legion Baseball 19U team is one win away from a trip to the national tournament in Shelby, North Car0lina.

RCP beat Middletown on the afternoon of Aug. 11 by a score of 7-2, for a shot to play Milford, Mass to represent the Northeast Region in the nationals.

The teams were close for most of the game. RCP score two runs in the top of the first, but then Middletown got one back after a bases loaded walk by RCP starter Jake Regula.

Regula seemed to enjoy pressure, having to work his way out of jams in the first four innings, but only allowing one more run before exiting in the 6th. Tucker Lord continued his lights-out post-season, not allowing any runs in three innings of relief.

RCP added the go-ahead run in the seventh, and then staged a 9th inning insurance run rally, adding four more in the final frame, including two on a line-drive single by Christian Budzik.

The winner of tonight’s game travels tomorrow to North Carolina to fight for the top of the heap with teams from 7 other regions. At press time, the team from Midland, Michigan was the first to qualify, winning the Great Lakes Region over Plover, Wisconsin, by a score of 8-5.
