Tolland 9-10 All-Stars Win Division

The Tolland 9-10 All-Star baseball team won three games over the weekend to advance to win the division and advance to the Section II Championship game.

On Friday, Tolland defeated Ellington 6-5 in a very intense and well played game. It went eight innings and Jimmy Grady hit a walk-off single to give Tolland the victory. Ellington had tied it in the bottom of the sixth, but left the bases loaded.

Cooper Keane had two hits with a double and two RBIs and Cullen Rublewski had two hits with a double. The pitching stars were Noah Linton, Tyler Gonzalez, and Rublewski.

Brandon Zahner, Louis Gosselin, and Zac Killoran all pitched well for Ellington. Matt Curtis and Ethan Sgarlata sparked the offense with Sgarlata driving one to the wall in left field for a double. Both players scored two runs.

Jordan Terry had a nice sacrifice bunt that ended up a key to tie the score in the top of the sixth. Mitchell Whelan made a nice play in left field in extra innings to keep the game going.  Luke Wearne caught all eigh innings. Devin Wolff made several key plays at second base to keep Ellington in the game.

On Saturday, Tolland defeated Norwich 8-3 behind excellent pitching from Grady, with Jimmy Blanco earning the save.  The hitting stars were Gonzalez with two hits and a double with two RBIs, Aidan Kohl, and Jaxon Cayward.

On Sunday, Tolland defeated Norwich 8-5 behind the pitching of Gonzalez and Keane.  The hitting stars were, Gonzalez with three hits, including two doubles and three RBIs, Keane and Joey Keane (both hit doubles), and Rublewski (two RBIs).

Tolland will play against Mystic in Pomfret at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
