Ellington All-Stars Advance

The Ellington 10-11 All-Star team defeated Tolland 11-1 on Sunday to advance to the Section II Championship.

Ryan Shaw pitched a great game going 3 and 1/3 innings, striking out four while giving up three hits, two walks, and one unearned run. Logan Macaluso closed the game, getting the last two outs. He helped the Ellington cause by hitting a double and a single.

Chris Wrona lead the attack for Ellington with three hits, including two doubles, and Cole Hurlburt added two hits and had a great defensive play in the outfield that saved two runs.

Tolland was lead by Ethan Bonadies with two hits (double and single) and Kellen Sargent with a hit. Josh Kirby played great defensively, snaring a line drive in the first inning and turning a double play in the second inning to keep the score close in the early going.

The teams had played on Saturday and Tolland came away with a 5-0 victory.

The game was 0-0 in the bottom of the fifth and Ellington made three errors that cost it. With one run in and the bases loaded, Tolland’s Kirby hit a grand slam to make the score 5-0.

Kirby also pitched five shutout innings for Tolland.

Nathan Pyne pitched four scoreless innings for Ellington before the fifth inning. Pyne also hit a double in the game and Macaluso also hit well for Ellington.

With the victory on Sunday, Ellington advances and will play Newington in East Hampton at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
