In 20 years of coaching baseball in Enfield, the one thing that had eluded Pete King was a district title.

That monkey finally got off his back Friday, as the Enfield Junior League all-star team captured the District 8 championship with a 23-2 rout of Somers at Powder Hollow Park.

Enfield captured the title in convincing fashion, winning all three of its games in five innings via the mercy rule. Enfield beat South Windsor 17-3 on Sunday, then crushed Windsor Locks 20-3 Wednesday.

Enfield pushed across 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to winning the district banner.

Dylan DeMaine belted four hits and scored five runs in the championship game, and Wyatt Hurlbut also scored five times while collecting three hits, including a pair of triples, and knocking in three runs. Ryan Murphy had three hits and four runs batted in, while Christian Pasini scored four runs and Jeff Falk knocked in three.

For the second time in five days, Falk pitched a complete game. He allowed just two hits, both to Brian Jablonski, and struck out six.

Enfield will represent District 8 in the state tournament, and will play Wednesday against an opponent to be determined.
