Ellington, SW All-Star Teams Advance

On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the Ellington All-Star teams advanced in the single elimination round to determine the District 8 Champion.

This is the second consecutive year where all three teams have advanced, which no other town in District 8 can say.

On Tuesday, the 11-12 team defeated Manchester American 8-0. On Thursday night, the team will face rival South Windsor National in semifinal action at the Ayers Road complex in South Windsor at 6 p.m.  This is a rematch of an outstanding extra inning ballgame in pool play.

On Wednesday night, the 10-11 team continued its dominance with a 21-6 downing of Manchester National and advanced to the District 8 Championship game on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Brookside Park.

Ellington was lead by Cole Hurlburt’s three hits – including a grand slam. Nathan Pyne, Garrett Phelps, and Ryan Shaw had two hits each. Manchester National was lead by homers from Kyle Lanzano and Alec Bairos. Kyle Pelletier, Jasean Falero, and Bairos had two hits each for Manchester.

The same night, the 9-10 team defeated Windsor Locks 9-1 to advance to the District Semifinals. Frank Mozzicato homered and Louis Gosselin had a key two run single in the fourth inning.  Ellington’s Brandon Zahner played stellar infield defense and Luke Wearne made a run saving catch in the outfield to preserve the victory.  Devin Wolff pitched three scoreless innings as well. Windsor Locks was led by Michael Jubrey who pitched three innings and struck out six batters. Catcher Wade Gamache played very well behind the plate.  Ellington will play Manchester National on Friday at 6 p.m. in Manchester.
