Local Athletes Lead Westminster to Championship

This season, the softball team at Westminster School in Simsbury went 17-0 and won the Class A Western New England Championship.

Amanda Savino, from Ellington, and Brooke Wolejko, from South Windsor, were a big part of this successful season.

“They have both been outstanding players – talented athletes who were part of an impressive leadership core on the softball team,” said coach Mitch Overbye. “They each helped lead the team to a 17-0 record and a sixth Class A Western New England Championship within seven years.

During their years at Westminster, Savino and Wolejko have had important roles in Westminster achieving a record of 63-5.

In her senior season, Savino pitched seven shutouts and had a 0.76 earned run average. Wolejko has been a surpeb player at third base, but also a terrific hitter who had a .516 batting average and 32 RBIs.

Both Savino and Wolejko were named to the Western New England All Star Team.

Savino will attend Franklin and Marshall College in September, and Wolejko will attend St. Lawrence University.
