Tolland Scholar Athlete Steinhilber

Name: Megan Steinhilber

School: Tolland High School

Sports Played: Cross Country, Outdoor Track, Girls Lacrosse, and Indoor Track

Accomplishments (athletic and academic):  I am the current salutatorian of the Tolland High School Class of 2014. I have received awards for outstanding academic achievement in History, Chemistry, and Computer Science. I am also a CAPT High Fiver Scholar and the Tolland High School Governor’s Scholar representative. I have received a varsity letter for my performance on the Tolland High School Girls Cross Country team (which won states, state opens, and came in fourth at New England’s this year, where I came in as the 16th place individual at states.

Most memorable thing about high school: How my friends always had my back, no matter the situation.

Biggest influence in life: My mother. She also has been able to coach me through my toughest points, both on the field and off.

If I could change one thing in the world, it would be: I would create a spay-neuter clinic for third world countries in order to help control the stray and feral dog and cat populations.

What it means to be named Scholar Athlete of the Year: It proves to me that I have achieved my ultimate academic and athletic goals. I have been known to set very high standards for myself, and recognition like this honor and other awards/report cards keep me motivated and working towards even higher goals.

College plans: I plan to pursue a major in Animal Science/Pre-Vet at the University of Connecticut this fall. I hope to pursue my graduate degree in veterinary medicine at either Iowa State or Cornell University.

Plans after college: Someday, I hope to have a successful and fully functional veterinary practice of my own. I also aspire to be a life-long runner and volunteer in my local community.
