Tolland SAM Kirsten Shea

Kirsten is a member of the National Honor Society, is in the top seven percent of her class, and has achieved honor roll or high honor roll each quarter throughout high school. She has played three years of varsity softball, one year of junior varsity softball, and two years of junior varsity basketball. Kirsten is a scholar athlete and has received the All-Academic Team award each year. She also received the coach’s award last year called the “Golden Glove Award,” representing hustle and willingness to dive for every ball.

How Kirsten prepares for a game: I try to prepare myself mentally and physically for each game. Mentally, by clearing my mind of the day’s events, reviewing our plays, and thinking of the best strategy to succeed during each play. Physically, by participating in offseason workouts, as well as arriving early before each game in order to take batting and fielding practice.

What Kirsten is most excited about this season: I’m most excited about the opportunity to play with my younger sister, Kelly, a freshman, at the varsity level. We are both able to dominate the right side of the field, playing at first and second base.

Kirsten’s most memorable moment as a high school athlete: I don’t have a specific memorable moment, but I enjoy every minute playing on the field, whether it be practice or a game. I will definitely miss playing with my teammates and the camaraderie of friendship at the end of this season.

What Kirsten hopes to accomplish this season: Having a successful season and playing in the state tournament this spring.

Kirsten’s favorite pro or college athlete:  Dustin Pedroia of the Red Sox. He is known for his preparation, hard work, and outstanding hustle during every play and sacrificing himself for the team to succeed.

Kirsten’s college plans: Attending Colby Sawyer College (New London, New Hampshire) this fall and I plan to continue participating in softball as a club sport there.
