Windsor Locks Grappler Wins New England Title

The third time was the charm for Khamri Thomas.

On his third trip to the New England Wrestling Championships, the Windsor Locks High School junior finally emerged victorious, winning the 182-lb. weight class with a 5-2 decision over Nico Dionsotti of Sudbury, MA Saturday in Providence, RI.

“It was my third year there, and I finally won one after coming off a knee injury last year,” Thomas said. “The match was a little different than I thought it would be, but it turned out nice.”

Thomas, who wrestles with the Suffield co-op team because Windsor Locks does not have a squad, had placed sixth in the New Englands as a freshman, and fifth in 2013. He won the State Open two weeks ago.

His next challenge will be March 27, when he begins competition in the 25th annual NHSCA High School Championships in Virginia Beach.

“Hopefully that will turn out good as well,” he smiled.
