The recipient of the annual Coach Lee Pinney/ Counselor Joel Arnold Scholarship winner, is Tolland lacrosse star Larry Middleton.

Middleton has displayed not only excellence on the field as a Tolland Eagle, but also annually volunteers his time to work with younger lacrosse players to promote the sport. He is an excellent role model and a great student, well deserving of the prestigious honor.

Middleton was the captain of the 2013 team that started the season with a 7-game winning streak, leading the team for it’s 1st CCC East Conference Title (tied with East Catholic and NW Catholic), finished with it’s best record in program history at 13-6, earned the 3rd seed in the Class S State Tournament which defeated NW Catholic in the 1st round before bowing out to Morgan-Clinton in the Quarterfinals.

Middleton was selected to the CCC East All Conference team and 2nd team All State at Defense. He will will be attending Western Connecticut State University in the Fall.

“He was an ideal captain and leader for the programs 10th team which started in 2003,” Tolland head coach Victor Hurtuk said. “He led by example as he made sure he was the hardest working player on the field. He was key in taking younger players under his wing and giving verbal advice to boost confidence.”

Middleton proved his true worth as he played with an injured shoulder for much of the second half of the season. He was second in groundballs for the team and scored two goals.
