Athlete of the Week: Suffield’s Consolini

With 10 returning starters and as much talent as any team in Connecticut, it is no wonder the Suffield girls soccer team finished the season a perfect 16-0.

The team is so good, in fact, that it allowed just one goal during the entire regular season.

Last week, one of the key parts of clinching the perfect season was senior Jillian Consolini.

In one of the biggest wins of the season, a 3-0 victory over Avon Friday night to clinch the NCCC title, Consolini was a part of intense Wildcat pressure all game long.

“We pressure all over the field,” Sullivan said. “We make everybody part of the offense, that’s our game, to pressure pressure pressure. Both teams are pretty equal. No matter who has the better team on paper both teams are going to work hard, it’s a great rivalry.”

Given a big opportunity to put the game away with a penalty shot late in the second half, Consolini attacked the net with poise and confidence, netting the goal to assure the win.

Suffield will compete for a Class LL title next week when the tournament begins.
