Athlete of the Week: Glastonbury’s Firnhaber

The Glastonbury boys soccer team has had a roller coaster season, but will surely be a competitor in the Class LL state tournament. A key factor will be the scoring threat of Gustavo Firnhaber.

The senior forward stepped up when his team needed it the most, and was a big factor in the Tomahawks Saturday win over Tolland, advancing them to the CCC Tournament semis.

“Evan Hassett went down with an injury after the Farmington game,” Glastonbury head coach Mark Landers said. “He was our captain and we needed someone to step up, and Gustavo he has been an incredible leader on the field, a field general. His play is speaking for itself right now.”

Firnhaber had two goals and an assist in the 5-1 win at home in the CCC quarterfinals Saturday, all in the first half.

The Tomahawks have the rest of the week off after a heartbreaking loss to Farmington in the semis, a scoreless tie decided 5-3 by penalty kicks Monday afternoon.
