Student Athlete of the Month: Suffield’s Begley

Patrick is not only fast, he’s also pretty smart. He is a member of the National Honor Society, has taken seven AP classes, and has always found himself on the honor roll. This in addition to an undefeated record during season meets in the NCCC and a third place finish in the Stratton Brook Invitational.
How Patrick prepares before a game: I like to talk about the course and the competitors with my teammates and listen to music..
How Patrick has improved this off-season: I have been improving at a constant rate since the beginning of my summer training, and I hope to continue to do so going into the post-season races at States, State Opens, and New Englands.
Patrick’s most memorable moment as a Wildcat: The time at which our 2011 cross country team thought we might have lost the State Class M Championship but we won by one point. The team truly felt like a unit in that moment, and we all shared an immense sense of relief and joy. Nothing else can match that moment when our name was announced.
Why Patrick is excited about 2013-14: I would like for my team to win our conference and Class M State Championships. While difficult, I hope that my team makes it to New Englands as well.
Patrick’s favorite pro athlete: Mo Farah because he was incredibly humble after winning the 5,000m and was super excited after winning the 10,000m. It was great to see such a phenomenal athlete and person take the win in both of those races.
Patrick’s plans after he graduates:  I hope to run at Division I school that is not a top competitor, as I want a chance to make varsity and run to the best of my abilities.
