SW, Glastonbury share boys cross country title

After Glastonbury won last week’s duel meet, South Windsor needed to been its game. In order to share the CCC North title, the Bobcats had to finish ahead of Glastonbury in the 28 team match and in the top two of the eight division competitors.

South Windsor sophomore Michael Stoker and senior Ethan Gasta took second and third respectively, and the Bobcats earned enough points to improve to 13-1 and take the title along with Glastonbury, also 13-1.

“They are very competitive guys,” head coach Peter Anthony said. “They know what’s out there they know what they need to do. All the guys have been stepping up.”

Five other varsity runners also contributed to the win, Ken Erikson, Chris Erikson, Garrett Brown, Cooper Goslin and Dan Ray.

Now, the Bobcats turn their attention to the Class L state meet on October 26 in Wickham. If South Windsor turns in a suitable finish, they could qualify for their first state open since 1995.

“We’re looking to finish third behind Hall and Darien,” the coach said. “We hope to finish third and qualify for the open. We haven’t gone since 95.”
