Student Athlete of the Month: Enfield’s LaRusso

Madison is the president of the National Honor Society, in the top 10% of her class, and has gotten high honors for four years. Equally as impressive are her athletic accomplishments, among them a captaincy of the varsity field hockey team, a three-time All-State selection and three-time All-NCCC selection.
How Madison prepares before a game: I try to simply focus on the game at hand; I keep my confidence up by telling myself, “You know what you have to do, now do it.” Dancing and warming up with my teammates also helps me get pumped up, confident, and ready to play my best.
How Madison has improved this off-season: During the past off season I had done a lot to stay involved with the game. Aside from my personal workouts, I played with my club team HTC North during the winter as well as participating in our schools dance team, to stay in shape. During the spring and summer, I participated in the HTC 7v7 league with my school team at Trinity College and attending an awesome “Goal Line” goalie camp lead by the head coach of the Columbia University Field Hockey team, Marybeth Freeman. I also visited a few other colleges and participated in their field hockey clinics.
Madison’s most memorable moment as a Raider: My most memorable moment while playing field hockey would have to be when I played in the CHSCA Junior Select Game. It was an amazing experience to be able to play with so many talented athletes and to experience new coaches; though I am the luckiest field hockey player ever, to be able to play on a team led by nationally recognized, hall of fame coach, Kathleen “Cookie” Bromage!
Madison’s plans after she graduates: I  plan to continue playing field hockey at a 4-year college or university, and I plan to major in Psychology.
