Glastonbury volleyball beats SW in thriller

SOUTH WINDSOR — It took the 12-2 Tomahawks five games to subdue the Bobcats in girls volleyball Thursday night, but 14 kills from Taylor McDowell and nine from Ali Hoogerwerff and Lauren Escribano lifted Glastonbury in an epic battle.

The Bobcats jumped to an early win, 25-15. Far from rattled, the Glastonbury girls bounced back with back-to-back wins, 25-19 and 25-14.

Then in the fourth game, Glastonbury took South Windsor to the brink, but the Bobcats hung on for a 28-26 win to set up a tie-breaker.

In the final race to 15, the Tomahawks were able to get the W, and got defensive contributions from Amanda James and McDowell, with five and four digs respectively. Hoogerwerff also helped out on defense with four blocks.

Glastonbury remains unbeaten in the CCC.
