Female Athlete of the Week: Avon’s Stross

Avon’s Emily Stross scored two goals in a nailbiting 2-1 win over Enfield Thursday, and has been an offensive leader for the Falcons all season long.

So far she leads the team with four goals, but it is more than her production that makes her a special student athlete.

“Emily has improved tremendously over the past few years,” Avon head coach Terri Ziemnicki said. “She has stepped up her game as a junior and shows great confidence and natural leadership. Her stickwork, game sense, and movement to the ball are her strengths. Emily has great sense around the net as well, with her specialty being deflections. She brings her vast experience as an ice hockey player of many years to the field hockey field. Her nickname is Gretzky.”

The Falcons are getting better every day, and thanks to Stross, the team will look to make a push for a post-season berth over the next few weeks.
