Tolland debuts new turf field

TOLLAND–Dignitaries and football fans alike joined to open a state of the art football, soccer and lacrosse turf facility in Tolland Friday night.

Among those participating were Governor Daniel Malloy, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, State Senator Tony Guglielmo and state representatives Sam Belsito and Tim Ackert.

Wyman assisted in the coin toss at the 50 yard line just before the Eagles took the field for the very first time surrounded by a packed house of riled up fans.

Unfortunately, Tolland faltered on the turf in a 41-7 loss.

“I wish we could have given them a better game,” Tolland head football coach Andy Bourquin said. “This is a great facility. It was a great atmosphere, it was wonderful. We have to make a better showing next time.”

The Tolland all weather turf field and lighting project was funded through a combination of state grants totally $700,000 and bonding proceeds of $300,000 with future contributions from various Tolland athletic clubs.

The field has both advertising opportunities available, and can be rented for outside occasions.
