Student Athlete of the Month: Farmington’s Chisholm

Matt is not only the defending New England indoor mile champion, an All-State, All-conference and All-New England runner and a member of last year’s CCC championship cross country team. He is also an All-Academic runner, an AP Scholor with distinction and gets first honors at Farmington High.
How Matt prepares: I make sure to eat healthy the night before and keep my mind off of the race. Right up until I start warming up I like to listen to music, then I go through my warm up routine.
How Matt has improved this offseason: The offseason for Cross Country is all about putting in the miles over the summer. Trying to increase your mileage with a lot of slow and long workouts is the best way to prepare and to be in top aerobic condition before the season starts.
Matt’s most memorable moment as an Indian: Winning the New England Championship in the one mile then forgetting to go to the podium. The cool down just seemed much more important at the time!
Why Matt is excited for the 2013 season: Farmington has a very strong Cross Country crew this year and I’m looking forward to winning a lot of races as a team. Winning as a team is always more fun than winning individually.
Matt’s favorite athlete: Matthew Centrowitz Jr.
Matt’s college plans: I plan to run in college and push myself to my limit. I want to see how fast my body is capable of running and hopefully my college career will reveal that.
