Student Athlete of the Month: Glastonbury’s Sanzaro

Ashley, also called Zorro by her teammates, is in the National honor Society and has been on the high honor roll since her freshman year. She returns as a starter for the second time on the varsity squad.

How Ashley prepares: My team has a great warm up track for music that gets all of us pumped up for the game. Right before the game we huddle up as a whole team. Then the starting group has their own huddle and says a lucky saying that everyone whispers.

How Ashley has improved this off-season: This year I have come back a different player. Over the off-season I have worked on my confidence and presence while on the field. I have also worked on my ability to beat an opponent while still playing defense.

Ashley’s most memorable moment as a Tomahawk: Last year in my junior year, we beat Avon for a “play for the cure” game. That was our first victory against them in 6 years.

Why Ashley is excited for the 2013 season: I am most excited about playing during my senior year and having the opportunity to have a fantastic season with great results. I am also very excited about playing a new position, center defense.

Ashley’s favorite athlete: Jamie Dwyer, the best field hockey player in the world.

Ashley’s college plans: For my future I am planning on attending a college where I can incorporate my academic and field hockey career into one place. Farther down the line I would love to coach a high school team and always incorporate field hockey someway in my life.
